Come join us for a virtual journey to Antarctica with Mike Ferrell! As a member of the United States Air Force, Mike has flown over most of the Antarctic continent and was the first known human to set foot in several remote areas of Antarctica. After retiring, Mike and his family have returned to Antarctica and would like to share with you their adventures and how you can take the journey of a lifetime to a continent with no citizens, amazing wildlife, and unbelievable scenery.
Michael Ferrell is a resident of Frederick County, Maryland, with his wife Rhonda and daughter Makayla. He served in the United States Air Force from 1977-2016 as an Aircraft Loadmaster, which is a flight crew position on C-130 aircraft. During his career, Mike spent time in 114 different countries on all 7 continents.
From 1999-2012, Mike was assigned to the 109th Airlift Wing, which has the unique mission of supplying the National Science Foundation’s logistical needs in Antarctica, Greenland, and the North Pole. This mission requires the unit to be in Antarctica from October to February, return home, and then spend June through August in Greenland supplying the National Science Foundation with food, fuel, construction materials, science experiments, and, of course, scientists.
