Frederick County's pioneering Brunner family and the iconic stone home they called Schifferstadt, now 261 years old, are the subjects of a new history by Patricia Ogden and Boyce Rensberger. German Immigrants, American Pioneers: The Brunners of Schifferstadt explores the life and times of the original family who built the home in the mid-1700s and details what remains of the oldest residential building in Frederick, Maryland. Patricia Ogden, a local historian, has devoted six years to digging up key facts from official and church records in Maryland and Pennsylvania. She is retired from the financial sector and lives in Frederick. Boyce Rensberger is a retired journalist with The Washington Post and The New York Times. He is a Brunner descendant who lived in six states before settling in Frederick and discovering that he had come home. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Presented in partnership with Summer Challenge sponsor Curious Iguana.
