Program Description

Event Details

This evening at the Gambrill Tea Room will take you back in time to life in the CCC camps that dotted the landscape of Frederick County over 70 years ago. A Park Ranger will the joys and discomforts of CCC life on the mountain, and talk about the historical structures still seen in the park today.

The CCC was a Federal program created during the Great Depression to get the nation back to work. The goal of the program was to create jobs for young men and to help restore the nation’s struggling natural resources. Gambrill State Park plays host to several features indicative of the CCC architectural and structural designs, including the native stone Gambrill Team Room build over 70 years ago. Originally designed for community events and gatherings, the building remains a popular location for weddings, family reunions, business meetings, and other special events.
