Are you a Maryland teen writer between the ages of 12 and 18? Join us for an afternoon workshop on writing science fiction and fantasy. Local authors will share their knowledge of writing SF&F short stories, novels, and poetry. This is a completely free hands-on experience, so bring your writing materials.

Featured Presenter Ciera Burch is a lifelong reader and writer. She has a B.A from American University and an MFA from Emerson College. She is the author of Finch House, Something Kindred, and Camp Twisted Pine. Finch House was a JLG Gold Standard Selection and a New York Times Kids Year of Books selection.

Featured Presenter Miguel O. Mitchell, PhD (he/him) is a Black speculative poet, SFF author, visual artist, and retired chemist. His poems have appeared in Amazing Stories, Dreams & Nightmares, Eye to the Telescope, Scifaikuest, Scarlet Dragonfly Journal, Star*Line, and Year's Best African Speculative Fiction. Author of two poetry books, Periodic Table of Alien Species, and Surrealia, Miguel co-edited the 2023 Dwarf Stars Anthology. He is part of the Sauúti Collective, writing poems for a shared universe based on African languages and cultural elements. His monthly Speculative Poetry Workshop is sponsored by the Baltimore Science Fiction Society.

The event is sponsored by the Maryland Writers’ Association in conjunction with the Middletown Branch Library in Frederick County.

Funding has been provided through a grant from the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association.
