Maryland will be 400 years old in 2034! It is not as far away as you think and it is never too early to begin the celebration. Our unique state is only the third former English colony to reach a Quadricentennial. We begin the celebration by investigating Maryland's first century. Speakers for the day: "What's So Important about Four Centuries?" by Burton Kummerow, Maryland's Four Centuries Project, "Maryland's 17th Century Life: the Big Picture" by Dr. Henry Miller, Director of Research, Historic St Mary's City, and "Native Americans Meet the English in the Potomac River Valley" by Dr. Stephen Potter, Regional Archeologist (retired), U.S. National Park Service.
